Annotations

With annotations in DroneMissions, you can directly record comments, defects, and findings within the 3D model. An annotation marks a specific location and stores all relevant information, making it easy to retrieve and analyze later. These can also be used in reports or Excel exports. Annotations can take various forms, such as a point, measurement, selection area, volume, or depth scan.

How does it work?

  1. Navigate to the desired location within the model
  2. Select the annotation type (e.g., point, measurement, selection area, volume, or depth scan)
  3. Place the annotation in the model
  4. Add a name and, if necessary, a comment
  5. If desired, link this annotation to a dataset and an item (for use in reports or exports). You can first create your own datasets in the portal.
  6. Save the annotation
  7. The annotation is linked to the correct location and can be reopened later via the ‘Annotations’ menu on the left.

What is being stored?

The following information is automatically recorded for each annotation:

  • The point in the model
  • The measurement, selection area, volume, or depth scan
  • The corresponding dimensions or value (such as distance, surface area, or volume)
  • A screenshot of the annotation
  • The camera viewpoint
  • The name of the annotation
  • A comment regarding the annotation
  • The date and time of recording
  • The user who created the annotation
  • The view to which the annotation is linked
  • The dataset object to which it is linked

What does this mean in practice

  • All relevant information is recorded automatically and centrally
  • Annotations are always linked to an exact location in the model
  • Information remains available, even in the long term

Practical examples

During an inspection, you can record a crack in a facade using an annotation. This stores not only the location but also a screenshot, measurement, and additional comment. This information can easily be retrieved or used in a report later.

Advantages

  • Complete and consistent recording of findings
  • Reduced risk of information loss
  • More efficient collaboration between involved parties

In brief

Annotations make it possible to record all relevant information about a location or object in a structured manner within the model, ensuring it is always easy to find and use.
